Joseph M. Coney, MD, recently returned from Port au Prince, Haiti after his 3rd trip to the region to train qualified general ophthalmologists there in the skills needed to perform retinal surgery and procedures.
Currently, there are no retinal surgeons in Haiti, and access to medical retinal care is limited. Dr. Coney’s goal is to improve that situation for the Haitian people.
His humanitarian mission trips are part of a multi-year commitment to train local ophthalmologists who are interested in learning to perform retinal surgery and, in turn, helping future generations of ophthalmologists to become proficient in these procedures.
Dr. Coney is appreciative of both SEE International and the Alcon Foundation, who have donated surgical supplies to treat debilitating ocular diseases.
Retina Associates of Cleveland congratulates Dr. Coney for his humanitarian efforts and compassionate care.
